The Beginning…
Akanksha's professional journey in the fashion industry began in 2015 at H. P. Singh Fabric Store, where she honed her knowledge about fabrics and Rajasthan’s craftsmanship. Her path led her to intern at Radnik Export House in 2016 and collaborated with the fashion house Sulakshana Monga and Rara Avis, where she worked on designing and sampling. In 2017, she took charge of design and production for a fashion label but decided to start her own production house, Kalakari by Akanksha, in 2018 due to differences in creative vision.

Kalakari, a combination of ‘Kala’, which is art in Sanskrit, derived from the meaning ‘to inspire’ and ‘Kari’, which means craftsmanship, is not just a brand name for Akanksha but a vision. Established with the ethos of paying respect to and innovating upon age-old hand craftsmanship techniques, Kalakari aims to integrate the essence of Indian heritage into contemporary silhouettes. The art of gota-patti and the melange of colours is a mainstay in the label’s design language. It symbolises the beauty and superior artistry that Indian art represents. Kalakari aims to uphold these qualities through its products for the contemporary Indian woman who wants to flaunt her heritage.
